When exactly did it become smart to reward kids for doing what they are supposed to do? You’re 12 - you eat, sleep, go to school, study and learn. That’s it. You shouldn’t even get a certificate for coming to school everyday - since legally, you *have to*!! And besides, you’re 12, what else are you going to do?!

1 year ago on this date I held my daughter at his memorial. The grandchild he never met.
I don’t regret waiting so long to have our first child, and even though I know he watches over her everyday, I would give anything to see the look on his face, playing with her and fawning over her.

In news Stateside, I paid $40 dollars last night for two pizza pies. Granted 1 of the pies had extra cheese, but holy frikking moly!! I remember when $40 bucks would include 2 pies, some soda, a calzone and I’d get change back. Needless to say, we’ll be having pizza leftovers tonight and maybe even tomorrow night too!!
Just sent 5 postcards out to people from PostCrossing.com. When you sign up, you retrieve up to 5 addresses to whom you are to send a postcard/letter to. When they receive it, they enter in the postcard ID, and then qualifies you to receive a postcard from someone else.

So much for an easy transition to summer. Today started off rainy, and now has turned into a muggy, hazy day. It’s close to 80, but thankfully not quite there. Walking across the street to the hospital proved to be an event. It was just bleh, and that was only for 15 feet. Can’t wait for the walk to the train station later this afternoon. Oh joy.
The Memorial Day weekend was nice. Spent the day at the mall [what recession??], then bbq’d some hotdogs. Had steak the night before along with potato salad that was a bit on the oniony side but which tasted good nonetheless. I guess it was because I hadn’t had it in a while.
Not much else is going on these days. Seems like it’s the same old thing day in and day out. Just realized that I’ll be busy the next 6 weekends with partys, birthdays, and a wedding thrown in for good measure. No rest for the weary I tell ya…

Had a wonderful birthday party for the Kelseynator this weekend over at East Buffet. So much food and everyone had a good time. The clown we hired to do face painting and balloons was a big hit too. I’m just glad it’s all over because I was really sick and tired of running around trying to get everything in order. Good thing 1st birthdays only come 1 time!!
So the Knicks hired Mike D’Antoni as our coach. He comes into a big mess after being unable to take the Phoenix Suns to the next level. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the talent level drop off between the two teams is substantial. I think one of the things he had going for him was that he’s known to make due with what he has and turn a bad situation into a better one. Granted his rep was made over in Italy, but that should count for something, right?
Our next two weekends are for once, free of anything to do. The past 6 weeks have been one get together after another. It will be nice to be able to relax and hang out at home for a change.
Once of the sections I always hit up in Barnes and Noble is the cookbook area. I like looking up all kinds of different cuisines and all sorts of recipes that I wouldn’t normally make, since I’d be the only one eating. Cooking for 4-6 is much easier than cooking for 2, especially when one of the two, has a very narrow palate. So I often end up spending lots of time in that one area, moreso if I grab a stack of books and find a seat.
So imagine my surprise when I found out I had won Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs from one of the bbq websites I frequent. Apparently the book is so new, I won it on the day it makes its debut. And it’s not so much a cookbook as it is a novel with recipes that can be discussed/found on the book’s board. Her previous book was “widely acclaimed” and hopefully this one will be too. This is definitely a book that I wouldn’t give a look at, normally so it will definitely be a change of pace from what I am currently reading.
