Now that the weekend is over, we’ve got the Final Four set. And for the first time in a long while, all #1 seeds have advanced to the last weekend of college basketball. Cinderella has left the building.

Although in watching the Davidson game, they could have very well crashed the party had Stephen Curry realized that one of the defenders near him had fallen down. He could then have driven the lane and forced a double, leaving someone else open for an easy jumpshot. But they settled for a 28 foot prayer that wasn’t answered.

I’m on the Calipari wagon and hope Memphis takes it so I can finally get on the board of the ESPL!!

A day late. I spent way too much time eating yesterday between my mom’s house and my inlaws. Filipino food followed by Italian food equals a full and sleepy me. Salad for the next three days should get me back to normal.

My Dukies lost on Saturday and now everyone is of the thought that we are overrated and overhyped. I think that you can look to a lack of any type of interior presence as the number one reason we are not as competitive as expected. We take alot of 3 pointers and they don’t always fall. We may be able to play smarter at times, but there are times when we just need to play better.

I knew we were in trouble when I came home around 8:30 and the Duke game was on. Their first round game usually gets bumped because they are routing the other team and CBS goes to a more competitive game. Well last night’s game *was* the most competitive game of the night. The only difference between Belmont and Duke last night is that they had 2 guards who could get to the rim at will, they shot the 3-ball better, and they had nothing to lose. We on the other hand made as many free throws as they attempted, & were led by Gerald Henderson’s 21/7/2/5. He also hit the game winner when no one slid towards him as he drove the length of the court. While Belmont’s big men were capable, that wasn’t what gave us trouble. It was the penetration of their guards and lack of interior defense that almost cost us the game. And to think Demarcus Nelseon was the ACC Defensive POY – apparently we forgot to tell Belmont that.

Duke basketball got smacked around this past weekend. The women’s team lost in the ACC championship in Greensboro, to North Carolina on Sunday. And on Saturday on ESPN Prime Time, the men’s team lost at home of all places, to #1 ranked North Carolina. The regular season championship was on the line as well as a season sweep, but we got neither. You had to expect NC to come out firing since Lawson their point guard didn’t play in the first meeting, and several of their main guys had off nights. Of course not scoring in the last 5 and a half minutes of the game is never a good thing either.

The league playoffs are this weekend, UNC a likely #1 and us a #2, which puts us on opposite sides of the draw. Doesn’t get any better than a 3rd and deciding game for the season, to be the ACC Championship. If UNC goes all the way, they’re a likely #1 seed in the NC2A tournament but I’m not so sure that’s the case for us unless we go on a major hot streak and impress the committee big time.

March Madness has truly begun…

My picks are resting on two players to take their team deep into the tourney – Acie Law IV & Kevin Durant. The latter wouldn’t surprise me so long as his coach doesn’t screw things up. Law on the other hand has got to get hotter than he was in his conference tournament for them to help me out. Hopefully he plays with that proverbial chip on the shoulder, and makes me look like a genius!
